There’s so much going on at NCY, with a busy team who barely ever have a chance to share some of the exciting things that are happening. Over the next few months, we’ll be showcasing just what we’re doing at NCY, and introducing the team members who are looking after them. Today, it’s the turn of Marcia, our wonderful CEO.
What’s your name?
What do you do at NCY?
I’m the Chief Executive, so I get to help the team develop exciting new ideas and projects. I spend a lot of the time meeting people who are interested in working with NCY, or finding people who would like to fund all the wonderful things that are going on, or that we plan to deliver.
How long have you been working at NCY?
I’ve been here 5.5 years.
What do you enjoy about working at NCY?
I love working with our wonderful team to dream up new ideas and projects, and watch as they take shape. I really enjoy seeing a project grow from a tiny idea, take on a life of its own, and change to respond to the needs of young people. There’s a lot of hard work making it happen, but it’s worth it when we are able to celebrate the success of the young people whose lives are changed because of the work our team are doing.
What are you looking forward to and why?
Our Dragon Boat fundraiser on the 27th June. It’s going to be a great evening, with a fantastic atmosphere, good food, and a chance to get competitive in boats, or just muck around on the water. I’m looking forward to seeing NCY’s own Barry and Kris dressed as girls and trying to infiltrate the Girls’ team. I don’t think they’ll be fooling anyone. Fundraising can be so boring, and there’s a limit to the number of times people will sponsor your to go on a walk, so it’s wonderful to have an imaginative fundraiser which will involve dozens of people in the work of NCY in a fun and creative way.
We’re hoping that it will be a massive success – we want to have 20 Boats with 11 people in each. If every person raises £200, that’s a whopping £40,000 to support projects which improve the life chances of young people, providing job opportunities, improving mental and physical health, and giving them a chance to take part in a whole variety of activities.
